We were so excited for the past Saturday to come to try the new cafe and roastery house in Cambridge.

Monigram opened around a month ago and is located at 16 Ainslie St. S., Suite C Cambridge ON.

Despite the rainy weather, we headed to Monigram …

A pleasant aroma of coffee, an operating roasting machine and an almost-packed cafe were all good signs!

We got a bit confused with the coffee menu, no familiar Italian names other than espresso …
If you choose to have milk with your espresso, then all you need to do is to choose the cup size you want your coffee in!

Eventhough, the formula seemed very simple, I was still a bit confused. I approached the friendly barista and asked her about the difference between macchiato and espresso+milk in a 3 oz cup. “They are the same” she responded. The reason why they chose to go with this menu is to overcome some of the confusions/misconception around coffee drinks.

“Some people ask for a macchiato in a cappuccino cup … for me, macchiato should be in this cup (the small macchiato cup)”.
Now, I understood and I think as far as such confusions exist, such a menu would be of a great help…
We could order our coffee now.
We ordered our two macchiato’s and started to take some more photos while waiting for our drinks…

The roasting machine was busy and the roasting process was being monitored using what seemed to be a system-monitoring software. The roasting guy was very nice to give us a short presentation of the software and its usage. Basically, the software illustrates the beans’ temperature and the rate of change in the temperature. The software also allows for uploading a reference roasting profile, which in turn enables reproducing same (or pretty close) roast over and over again. Pretty neat!

We liked everything in our first visit, the cafe, the atmosphere, the sign, the logo, the big windows, and more importantly our macchiato’s… and will definitely revisit …

Oh I forgot the police public call box (a.k.a washrooms) : D
